Chapter 10

I cowered at the back of my cage, but the two elves didn’t come at me the way I expected. Instead, they walked over and leaned against my cage while they talked. It was as if they didn’t even realize I was there, and their utter disregard for my entire being showed just how little they thought of me. They didn’t see me as a threat, even though I could rip their heads off with a single bite.

The elves’ treatment of the dragon angered me, but I pushed the thought aside and focused. The silver dragon usually only called me to him to show me something important, so I sat patiently and waited to see what these elves would do.

Then the large dragon laid down on the cold metal floor of the cage and listened as the two elves spoke.

If these two elves were still alive, that meant they’d probably decided to follow Vinrar. A quick look at my surroundings told me I was either in the same white canvas tent I’d been in just the day before, or the Elf King had made several that were probably strewn across Alfheim. Either way, I recognized the two henchmen from the day before. They were some of the ones who’d been with the Elf King when Vinrar appeared.

The bastard had most likely killed enough of them that the rest decided to surrender and save themselves.

“I, for one, am glad the King is gone,” one of the elves sneered. He had short light-blond hair, incredibly crystal blue eyes, and slightly yellowed teeth, probably from the strange herbs he was chewing. They smelled like death and sour milk, and the stench of them filled my nostrils and nearly made me gag.

“I can’t say I’m surprised about it,” the darker-haired elf said with a shake of his head. “The King worked for years to bring Vinrar back because he knew he was the one true king. It makes sense that only one of them could lead, not both.”

“Yes, and now we know who the weaker of the two was,” the blond-haired elf said, and he spat some strange dark green herbs onto the ground next to him and then kept chewing what was in his mouth.

“Finally,” the dark-haired elf chuckled.

Apparently, not all of the henchmen followed Vinrar out of fear. These two seemed to genuinely respect him.

“The Elf King had the right idea with the baby dragons, though,” the yellow-toothed elf said. “But he didn’t execute it nearly as well as Vinrar did yesterday.”

“And that was just the beginning,” the dark-haired elf said with a devious smile.

“That’s right.” The blond elf smiled back to reveal his nasty teeth once more.

“When we return to Asgard, Vinrar will be able to take out Odin no problem, and then we’ll be on our way to ruling all the nine realms,” the dark-haired elf said.

“The next batch of dragons should be ready in about two days.” The blond nodded. “As soon as they’re done growing, we can go forward with the attack.
